Uncapped Thresholds and Throttling
- All Pure 5G Uncapped packages are subject to a monthly threshold of 1TB. Once you’ve reached your monthly data limit, your connection speed will be limited to 1Mbps for the remainder of the month.
Cancellation policy
- SIM + Device - should you cancel your SIM + Device package in less than 6 months from signup date, or your account falls into arrears, you will automatically be charged a cancellation fee of R999.
- SIM Only - the cancellation fee does NOT apply to SIM Only packages. These packages can be cancelled at any time before the 15th of the month.

What is 5G?
5G is a new generation of mobile networking and offers vastly improved speeds and seamless performance. 5G is much faster than 4G (5G).
What speeds can I expect?
The MTN Network averages up to 246Mbps. Average speeds remain device and coverage dependent and are determined by the external environment around your home and where the router is situated in your home.
Can I use this 5G service anywhere?
The Fixed 5G service is designed to be used at your home, and the SIM card will be locked to the location you provide and your Fixed 5G services will only work at this location.
General Questions
Do I need to sign up for a contract?
No! At Afrihost, we don't lock you into outlandish contractual commitments. All our packages are month-to-month and can be easily cancelled if you change your mind.
How long does it take to activate after delivery?
Your SIM card should be active within 30 minutes after delivery. In extreme cases it can take up to 48 hours, but this is highly unlikely. Should you have trouble connecting after 30 minutes, please reboot your device and try to connect again. Please contact our Support team if you do not have a connection after 48 hours.
Why are only certain devices allowed to be used with Pure 5G?
Afrihost can only allow devices which have been network approved by MTN and have identified a range of devices which specifically suit a Fixed 5G offer, and which are sometimes offered by competitors. This range of devices includes:
- HUAWEI: 5G CPE Pro 2
- ZTE: 5G CPE MC801A
Please note that Pure 5G will only work on the above approved devices. If you insert your SIM card into a device that has not been approved by MTN, your SIM card will be blocked and you will lose internet access. You will then have to contact Afrihost Support to get your SIM card unblocked.
SIM and APN
Do I need to RICA my SIM card?
Yes. You will need to have your original barcoded Identity Document, as well as a valid proof of residence. Visit our RICA Information page for detailed information.
Can I use the SIM card in another device?
our Pure 5G SIM card is only compatible with the 5G device supplied with your order. For SIM Only packages, only the following approved devices will work with your Pure 5G (MTN) SIM card:
- HUAWEI:5G CPE Pro 2
- ZTE:5G CPE MC801A
Please note that you also need to be in the MTN Network coverage area.
Do I need to change my APN settings?
SIM + Device orders
We will preconfigure the 5G device that is shipped with your SIM card - so you do not need to change any APN settings.
SIM Only
If you will be using your new 5G SIM card with your own device, please visit setup.afrihost.com for instructions on how to get connected. In some cases you’ll have to change the Access Point Name (APN) settings on your device.
Managing your package
Can I upgrade or downgrade my package?
Yes. All Pure 5G packages can be upgraded or downgraded in ClientZone.
Note that package changes will only be effective on the 1st of the following month, regardless of when in the month the request is made or whether it is an upgrade or downgrade. This is a restriction from our providers.
